Welcome

Welcome to Lamb Cottage. It's a real place, and this is where I live with my dear husband. We even have lambs. This is a personal blog, especially concerning life as an American expat in Scotland, life as an over-50, life with lambs, and life as an Orthodox Christian. You're most welcome to come and visit awhile. I hope we can be friends!

How Come I Never Knew This???

Yesterday, I got a big 500ml jar of coconut oil in the mail.  I stumbled on something about coconut oil for a healthy mouth, and I thought I would try it.  Since then, I have been reading about the benefits of coconut oil, and I'm absolutely gobsmacked!  Where have I been?  How come I never knew this?

Here is a good place to interject that since moving from the US to the UK almost 8 years ago, I have been, let's just say, LESS THAN IMPRESSED with the health service here (NHS).  It seems to me antiquated, and well, clueless, about most things.  Having said that, I also have to add this clarification:  my husband was diagnosed as needing a pacemaker, and they were right on it.  He had one by the next day.  So go figure.  I guess that's another thing I don't like though:  the inconsistency.

But I digress.  Over the past 8 years, my health has deteriorated.  I don't know if it has something to do with a major change in cultures, different diet, different water, stress, aging, whatever.  And, we have become Orthodox Christians, which means a significant dietary change.  Well, I have had major intestinal / stomach / esophageal issues off and on since I got here.

Then... at long last... I discover COCONUT OIL!  WOW!  Who knew?  And as I have been researching, I have also learned how TOXIC so many of the things I use / eat are:  of course, anything processed or made in a factory, but even things like deodorant and toothpaste and moisturizer.

Some of the benefits of coconut oil include:
  • healthier hair and skin
  • mouth health (pulling)
  • digestive health
  • balanced metabolism
  • cholesterol level maintenance
  • weight loss
  • improved immune system
  • curing H. Pylori infections
  • and a reduction in or relief from:  kidney problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, and even cancer.
The above is apparently a short-list.  Well, listen... I'm on it.  Today I opened my jar and used 2 tsp for pulling (swishing around in your mouth, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach for 15 minutes).  It was not hard at all.  When you do this, it is supposed to pull the bad bacteria away from teeth/gums/tongue and when you spit out the oil, away it goes.  It's a toxin removal.  And many people swear by it, also stating that it removes other harmful toxins from the body that way.

Did you know that ALL VEGETABLE OILS ARE BAD?  I know, I know, I'm probably the last one on this train.  But I'm here, nevertheless.  I have used vegetable oils all my life.  Well, they're outta here.  From here on out:  coconut oil and olive oil ONLY.  For cooking,  For baking,  For healthcare and personal hygiene.

Visit this blogger's site:  THE COCONUT MAMA  for more information and recipes and other uses of coconut oil.  If you try it, or already use it, let me know.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.

January 2015 :: Just Barely!

I've been thinking.  I've gone back and forth about my blogs and blogging and blogland in general. At one point, I was ready to chuck the whole thing.  After all, it seems that nowadays, everyone is an expert.  Mostly, I run across blogs owned by 20-something wonder women who know everything about everything and feel that they have to tell us all about it.  It must be fabulous to be so smart!  I wouldn't know.  I'm not an expert.  Not on anything.  And the older I get, the the more I know that I know very little.

Having said that, I've decided to keep blogging.  It's a new year, and a new day.  I'm NOT an expert, not even on needlework and designing, so if you're looking for wonderful ways to learn how to do everything, this is not the blog for you!  However, if you're just looking to "set a spell" and see what the musing for today is, well, come on in!

This is not a niche blog.  There will be no lists of this or that (23 ways to make your teeth whiter, 14 one-pot dinners, 42 ways to carry your cat, etc.).  There will be no "tutorials".  I have to say it:  when I was growing up, a tutorial was a fairly academic thing.  Not anymore!  Crikey!  Who needs a tutorial for crafting with toilet paper rolls?  But I digress...

Let's start the new year with a little humor.  I confess, I enjoy Pinterest and I especially like my cat board.  This one has gone around quite a bit, and I don't know why, but it makes me hysterical laughing.  I hope you like it, too:

Happy New Year everyone!  (Belatedly)
